Throwing 101

What is Axe Throwing ?

Axe throwing is a sport where participants throw small axes at targets, typically made of wood. The points system in axe throwing is designed similarly to that of darts:

  • Bullseye (6 points) : The center of the target is usually marked with a bullseye, which awards the highest points.
  • Inner Ring (4 points): Surrounding the bullseye is an inner ring, which awards fewer points than the bullseye but more than the outer rings.
  • Outer Ring (3 points): The outermost ring on the target awards the lowest points among the scoring zones.
  • Killshot (10 points): Some variations of axe throwing include a special target or area called the "killshot". This is typically a small target located in a specific position on the main target board, and hitting it awards a higher number of points, often 10 points.
  • No Score Zone: Axes that stick outside the scoring zones or hit the ground without sticking do not score any points.

  • Participants typically take turns throwing a certain number of axes (usually 3 to 5 per round) and accumulate points over multiple rounds. The player or team with the highest total score at the end of the game or competition is the winner.

What is the experience like ?

Most people are beginners when they start axe throwing. Learning the proper stance, grip, and release technique from instructors adds to the excitement and challenge. Axe throwing combines skill, competition, and camaraderie in a fun and safe environment, making it a popular choice for those looking for a novel recreational activity or a unique social outing.

Axe throwing can be done individually or in teams. It often involves friendly competition where participants cheer each other on and celebrate successful throws.
